SRH vs KKR: Lockie Ferguson locks it for Kolkata Knight Riders via Super Over | Cricket News

ABU DHABI: A fast and furious Lockie Ferguson produced one of the most incredible bowling performances of this IPL edition to lead Kolkata Knight Riders to a thrilling Super Over win over Sunrisers Hyderabad on Sunday.
Ferguson proved to be the “Knight in Shining Armour” with his storehouse of variation as he dismissed David Warner and Abdul Samad in the Super Over, leaving KKR with only a three run-target to chase.
Scorecard | Points Table
This was after David Warner’s unbeaten 47 and 18 runs off the final Andre Russell over saw Sunrisers level the scores at 163 with KKR in the stipulated 20 overs.
Ferguson was magnificent during the regulation 20 overs also as his 3/15 in 4 overs had SRH in all sorts of trouble. He bowled a first spell in which he dismissed Kane Williamson with a short ball, got rid of Priyam Garg with a slower one and saw the back of Manish Pandey with a yorker.
His five wickets in the game got KKR the much-needed two points to take their tally to 10 while Sunrisers stay put on 6 points and are in serious danger of missing the play-offs.

Earlier, Ex-captain Dinesh Karthik‘s carefree approach was well complemented by skipper Eoin Morgan‘s grace as Kolkata Knight Riders managed a par 163 for five after being put into bat.
Karthik (29 not out) and Morgan (34 off 23 balls) joined forces at 105 for four and added 58 runs in the last five overs after 150 was looking a tall-order at one stage.
Morgan’s innings had three fours and a flicked six over mid-wicket off Basil Thampi while Karthik hit a couple of sixes and equal number of boundaries.
T Natarajan (2/40) was the most successful bowler but it was Vijay Shankar (1/20 in 4 overs) who was the most economical.

Rahul Tripathi (23 off 16 balls) gave the first charge in the Powerplay as he hit Natarajan for a straight six and a pulled boundary while Shubman Gill (36 off 37 balls) struggled to time the ball, saving an over from Thampi when he got three successive fours.
Tripathi couldn’t maintain the momentum as an ugly cross-batted hoick off Natarajan only ended in the bails flying off.
Gill however after those flurry of fours found it difficult to up the ante. Nitish Rana (29 off 20 balls) looked in good nick after a gap of few games.
He straight away took on rival team’s best bowler Rashid Khan and deposited him straight for a six and also found a couple of boundaries.
But Gill’s inability to rotate strike did put KKR in a spot of bother as he tried an inside out lofted shot off Rashid. Priyam Garg, running towards his left from long-off, took a brilliant diving catch to see the opener’s back.
Gill’s dismissal was followed by Rana’s who mis-timed a shot off Vijay Shankar and was again caught by Garg, who ran forward to take a well-judged catch.
Andre Russell’s (9 off 11 balls) season just got from bad to worse as his shot off Natarajan’s slower one landed in the hands of Shankar at deep mid-wicket boundary. From a stable 87 for 1 in the 12th over, KKR had slumped to 105 for 4 at the end of the 15th over.

NEW DELHI: National sports federations (NSFs) of five leading Olympic disciplines were on Tuesday called for a presentation by the Parliamentary Standing Committee for the Ministry of Human Resource Development (HRD) to review the country’s preparedness for the Tokyo Games next year.
The committee of 30 parliamentarians from both Houses of Parliament will henceforth monitor India’s preparation for the Games and Tuesday’s gathering was first of several such meetings planned by the committee in coming months to discuss and assess the country’s “medal-winning probability” in Tokyo, TOI has learned.
The NSFs, which made a brief presentation at the Parliament House Annexe, included Boxing Federation of India (BFI), Hockey India (HI), Wrestling Federation of India (WFI), Weightlifting Federation of India (IWLF) and National Rifle Association of India (NRAI). Sports secretary Ravi Mittal, Sports Authority of India (SAI) director general Sandip Pradhan and other senior SAI officials also attended the meeting.
The parliamentary committee is headed by the ruling BJP’s Rajya Sabha MP, Vinay P. Sahasrabuddhe, as its chairman and includes seasoned politicians like Bhubaneswar Kalita, Jyotiraditya Scindia and Arvind Kumar Sharma.
Sources said the committee discussed with the ministry and SAI officials the country’s preparedness for Tokyo Games, ongoing national camps, resumption of sports activities and training of Olympic-bound athletes post Covid-19 and the expected size of the Indian contingent for the Games. Most importantly, the medal-winning disciplines were identified. It’s been learned that the sports officials are looking at a double-digit medal tally from the Games.
The five NSFs which made the presentation, apprised the committee of those who have qualified or are hopeful of qualifying for the Games, beside the medals expected from each of their disciplines. It was decided by the committee to meet after Diwali festivities next month to discuss the preparations at length. It’s been learned that the other high-priority Olympic sport NSFs, which will be sending athletes to Tokyo, will also be called to share their roadmap.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: IPL 2020: Saha has little groin niggle and Shankar has hamstring issue, confirms SRH skipper Warner | Cricket News

DUBAI: After a comprehensive 88-run victory over Delhi Capitals in the IPL on Tuesday, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) skipper David Warner gave an injury update on Wriddhiman Saha and Vijay Shankar, saying the former has a groin niggle while the latter has a hamstring issue.
SCORECARD | POINTS TABLE | FIXTURES
Delhi failed to chase down the massive target of 220 and were bundled out for 131, stumbling to a heavy defeat. For SRH, Rashid Khan scalped three wickets while Sandeep Sharma and T Natarajan took two each.
With this win, Hyderabad have moved up to the sixth place in the points table with 10 points from 12 matches. On the other hand, Delhi have slipped to the third spot with 14 points from 12 matches.

“Unfortunately, he (Saha) has got a little groin niggle. Hopefully, it isn’t too bad. Shankar has a hamstring issue as well. As for Rashid, it is incredible that he’s taking so many wickets and not going for runs, especially given the dew and the moisture here. We’ve got games at Sharjah to go, so hopefully we can put on a show there,” Warner told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.
Saha and David Warner scored 87 and 66 respectively as Hyderabad smashed 219/2 in their allotted twenty overs.
Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson remained unbeaten on 44 and 11 respectively, while Anrich Nortje returned with figures of 1-37 in his four overs for Delhi.

“Tonight, as I said at the toss, I was looking to bat first. Losing the toss, I wasn’t disappointed. We had to take their fast bowlers on. I’ve decided to go back to 2009 and open the front leg a little bit and clear these grounds. I took a bit of responsibility at the top of the order and take it to the bowlers.
“It’s tough to play orthodox cricket in these conditions, so I have to open up 360 degrees. Difficult decision to leave Jonny (Bairstow) out and get Saha in, and especially batting a batsman like Kane at (number) four. Incredible knock from Saha though, and his strike-rate in the powerplay was incredible,” he added.
SRH will next lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Cristiano Ronaldo: Cristiano Ronaldo still positive for coronavirus | Football News

Published

TURIN (Italy): Cristiano Ronaldo has tested positive again for coronavirus on the eve of Juventus‘s Champions League clash against his great rival Lionel Messi’s Barcelona, according to media reports in Italy and Portugal.
Portuguese TVI reported that Ronaldo “has once against tested positive for Covid-19” following a swab carried out by Juventus.
The 35-year-old is now awaiting the result of a UEFA test which, if also positive, would rule him out of the Group G game in Turin.
Ronaldo first tested positive for Covid-19 two weeks ago while playing with Portugal, and has been in self-isolation since returning to Italy.
According to TV1, the five-time Ballon d’Or winner has tested positive 18 times.
Ronaldo needed to return a negative test, 24 hours before the game to be allowed to play, according to UEFA rules.
Juventus only confirm if a player has recovered, with Sky Sport Italia and Gazzetta Dello Sport reporting that Ronaldo will miss the Barcelona game.
“Ronaldo had a test like everyone else, this evening (Tuesday) we will have the definitive result,” coach Andrea Pirlo told a press conference earlier Tuesday.
“For now it’s all on the high seas, when the final result comes everything will be clearer.
“Depending on the result, we’ll see what we do. It’s not easy to play an entire game after 15 days of inactivity.”
Ronaldo, who has no symptoms, has missed three games including his side’s 2-0 Champions League win at Dynamo Kiev last week.
The clash would be the first between Ronaldo and Messi since the Portugal forward left Real Madrid for Juventus in 2018.
“For 15 years, Messi and Ronaldo have done great things,” said former Italy and Juventus midfielder Pirlo.
“For the first time, I’ll be taking on Messi as a coach, I’ll treat him with the enormous respect that he deserves.”
Barcelona coach Ronald Koeman added: “We always want the best to be on the pitch, and Ronaldo is a great player.
“I don’t know if he will be in condition to play, that’s not my problem. But if Ronaldo is there, it is one more reason for us to be ready.”
Koeman, like Pirlo, has taken over as coach this season, with the teams top of Group G after winning their opening fixtures.
But the Dutch manager has been under pressure after a 3-1 defeat against Real Madrid at the weekend followed a 1-0 loss to Getafe, the first time in four years the Catalan giants have suffered consecutive defeats in the league.
Barcelona president Josep Maria Bartomeu also resigned on Tuesday along with his board of directors, following mounting pressure from fans and his public falling out with Messi.
Ronaldo and Messi now look set to meet again in the reverse fixture at the Nou Camp on December 8.
Messi, 33, has featured in four victorious campaigns for Barcelona, while Ronaldo has won the Champions League five times, four with Real Madrid and once with Manchester United.
Messi has six Ballon d’Or titles with Ronaldo claiming five.
However Ronaldo has 130 Champions League goals to Messi’s 116.
“It’s clear that any team would miss a player like Cristiano,” said Brazil defender Danilo at the pre-match press conference.
“But we have faith in every player on the team. We have people who want to do well and help us have a great match.”
Messi has won 16 of their 35 encounters to Ronaldo’s 10, with the remaining nine ending in draws.
The pair have only met five times in Champions League games, most recently in the semi-final in 2011.
Pirlo also has defensive worries with captain Giorgio Chiellini, and Matthijs De Ligt out but fellow centreback Leonardo Bonucci’s thigh strain will be evaluated on Wednesday morning.
“These are the matches that everyone would like to play. We have this opportunity and we can’t wait to test ourselves against Barcelona,” said Pirlo.
“It’s not a decisive game, but we still want to see what our value is.”
Argentina forward Paulo Dybala remains “a bit tired” after playing for 90 minutes in his first match in over three months last Sunday against Verona.
“It’s normal after the first game as a starter. He’ll have time to recover and play tomorrow night.”
