HEAD TO HEAD:

Hello and welcome to the Live coverage of Match 35 of the IPL 2020 between Sunrisers Hyderabad and Kolkata Knight Riders.

PREVIEW:
A new captain in the saddle, Kolkata Knight Riders would look to sort out their batting woes and strive for consistency when they face Sunrisers Hyderabad in an intriguing mid-table.
After a string of below par performances, Dinesh Karthik handed over the reins to his deputy Eoin Morgan hours before KKR’s match against Mumbai Indians on Friday. But the World Cup-winning England captain’s campaign as leader was off to a disappointing start with MI handing KKR an eight-wicket mauling.
KKR are still in the top four of IPL points table behind Mumbai Indians, Delhi Capitals and Royal Challengers Bangalore with four wins and as many defeats. But if the two-time champions want to seal a play-off spot, their batsmen need to step up, shrug off their inconsistencies and win matches for the team.
After a massive 82-run loss to RCB, the KKR batsmen failed yet again against MI bowlers as they were reduced to 42 for 4 in the eighth over. Half of KKR batsmen were gone for 61 in the 11th over. An 87-run unbroken stand for the sixth wicket between Morgan (39 not out) and pacer Pat Cummins (53 not out) took them to 148 for 5.
But MI needed just 16.5 overs to overhaul the target, losing two wickets in the process.
At the top, Shubhman Gill has failed to capitalise on his starts, while Rahul Tripathi has not gone past the 20-run mark after his brilliant 81 against the Chennai Super Kings.
Nitish Rana has been profligate and Karthik’s batting slot has been experimented with throughout the tournament. Andre Russell and Morgan have also not been able to make the kind of impact expected from players of their calibre.
The KKR bowlers did well to fashion narrow victories against Kings XI Punjab and CSK, but leaked runs against RCB and MI. To add to their woes, star spinner Sunil Narine has been reported for suspect bowling action and he has missed two matches since then.
The Sunrisers, who occupy the fifth spot on the points table with just three wins from eight outings, are also struggling. With the injuries ruling out pace spearhead Bhuvneshwar Kumar and all-rounder Mitchell Marsh, the Orange Army is facing a conundrum of whether to strengthen their batting or their bowling unit, a fact that skipper David Warner conceded.
The team heavily relies on its batting unit, mainly on the top four comprising Jonny Bairstow, Warner, Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson.
A cause of concern for the Sunrisers is Rashid Khan’s form. After returning impressive figures like 3/14, 0/12, 3/12, the Afghan leg- spinner remained ineffective in the team’s last two losses. Rahul Tewatia, Ambati Rayudu and Shane Watson smashed him for sixes.
Skipper Warner will desperately hope that his star spinner finds his mojo back which is imperative for the team’s success.

Shikhar Dhawan becomes first player to score consecutive centuries in IPL history | Cricket News

DUBAI (UAE): Delhi Capitals‘ opening batsman Shikhar Dhawan on Tuesday became the first player to register consecutive centuries in the history of the Indian Premier League (IPL).
Dhawan achieved the feat as he brought up his century against Kings XI Punjab (KXIP) in the ongoing Indian Premier League (IPL). In the match against KXIP, Dhawan smashed 12 fours and 3 sixes to bring up his century off just 57 balls.
“Back to back 100s for @SDhawan25. He is the first player to have consecutive centuries in IPL. Take a bow, Gabbar,” the official handle of IPL tweeted.

Along the course of this innings, Dhawan also completed 5000 runs in the IPL. As a result, Dhawan is now at the fourth position in IPL’s all-time leading run-scorer list.

Co-incidentally, Dhawan also completed 10 years in international cricket on Tuesday. Earlier, Shreyas Iyer-led Delhi won the toss and opted to bat first against KXIP.

Before this match, Dhawan had scored a century against Chennai Super Kings (CSK) on Saturday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.
With this effort, Delhi Capitals had recorded a victory against CSK to go to the top of the points table.
Dhawan had a slow start to this IPL campaign as he failed to register big scores in the opening few matches of the tournament.
His first half-century this season came against Mumbai Indians in Delhi’s seventh match of IPL 2020.
After this effort, Dhawan recorded scores of 57 and 101 against Rajasthan Royals and Chennai Super Kings.
The left-handed Dhawan is currently in second place in the leading run-scorer list for this year’s IPL.

Historic hundred from Shikhar Dhawan takes Delhi Capitals to 164/5

Dubai: Shikhar Dhawan became the first batsman to score back-to-back hundreds in the IPL as his sensational effort took Delhi Capitals to 164 for five against Kings XI Punjab here. Dhawan cracked an unbeaten 106 off 61 balls which included 12 fours and three sixes.

It seemed he was batting on a different surface with the second highest score of the innings coming from skipper Shreyas Iyer and Rishabh Pant, who made 14 each.

KXIP bowled well at the back end of the innings to restrict DC to below 180 with lead pacer Mohammed Shami (2/28) being the stand out performer.

Fresh off a hundred in the last game, Dhawan began by slog sweeping offie Glenn Maxwell in the opening over.

Shaw, who failed to get off the mark in the preview two games, perished cheaply once again, trying to smash Jimmy Neesham over extra cover when he was in no position to play that aerial stroke.

Iyer too did not last long after getting off the mark with a lofted cover drive that went for a six with Delhi reaching 83 for two in 10 overs.

At the other end, Dhawan grew in confidence and an example of that was the way he drove a full ball from Shami over mid-off.

The southpaw crossed the 5000-run mark in the IPL by sweeping leggie Ravi Bishnoi for a six over deep square-leg, becoming the fifth batsmen to do so in the tournament’s history.

He got to his century, another landmark, with a double off left-arm pacer Arshdeep Singh.

However, he did not get the required support from the other end as Delhi ended with a below-par total.

Delhi made three changes by bringing back a fit again Pant and Shimron Hetmyer, who made way for wicketkeeper Alex Carey in the former’s absence.

Bowling all-rounder Daniel Sams was handed his debut cap with the Australian replacing in-form pacer Anrich Nortje.

KXIP surprisingly replaced Chris Jordan with Neesham after the Englishman had a decent outing in the previous game against Mumbai Indians.

IPL 2020: This CSK team has ‘run out of juice’, says coach Fleming | Cricket News

Published

By

CHENNAI: Chennai Super Kings (CSK) may still have a possibility of making the IPL playoffs, but the team itself doesn’t seem to believe so after a comprehensive loss to Rajasthan Royals (RR) in Abu Dhabi on Monday. Skipper MS Dhoni and coach Stephen Fleming looked demoralised and defeated after being thoroughly outplayed by the Royals. With just three wins in 10 matches, CSK’s proud record of making the playoffs every edition they have taken part in seems finally set to end.
Fleming was blunt and forthright in his assessment of the team when he stated that they may have “run out of juice”.

“Looking at the table, it’s fair to say that this team may have run out of juice. If you look at it as a three-year cycle, we won the tournament in 2018 and made the final last year. We always thought that the third year will be difficult with an ageing group. And these conditions in the UAE have challenged us with a new set of requirements,” Fleming said at the post-match press conference.

While winning their remaining four matches would take CSK to seven wins and still give them a chance of making the playoffs, the CSK leadership seems downbeat about any such possibility. As Fleming said, there weren’t any positives from their performance on Monday to give them hope going forward.

“The mood in the camp is pretty down. We were thoroughly outplayed. You get hope and confidence moving forward when there are positives. There is an outside chance that we reach the playoffs, but when you are relying on other results and a change in form of your own team, it is very hard to be upbeat and positive,” the Kiwi coach felt.

Despite poor performances from some of the senior players, CSK have been stubborn in selecting the same players again and again without willing to give the younger players a chance. The selection of Kedar Jadhav over N Jagadeesan is a pertinent example. Jadhav has clearly been out of sorts but yet has continued to be favoured over Jagadeesan, who was discarded after just one match.
Dhoni, who has himself been below par this season, admitted that the criticism of not playing youngsters was fair but observed that he didn’t see a spark from them. But have the likes of Jagadeesan and Ruturaj Gaikwad been given enough opportunities to prove their mettle?
Now that they are all but out of the tournament, it seems like the fringe players will finally be given a chance. “We didn’t see as much spark from some of our youngsters. Maybe going forward, we bring them in and they play without pressure,” said Dhoni.
Fleming, too, suggested that they will give other players a chance with one eye towards rebuilding the team ahead of next season. “I think it’s fair that we give a chance to other players. We have got some players we want to have a look at. We need to make sure we are still engaged in the competition and also find out some good answers on the players we have got moving forward.”
Bravo confirmed to be out for two weeks: CSK confirmed on Tuesday that all-rounder Dwayne Bravo, who suffered a groin injury against Delhi Capitals last Saturday, will be out of action for two weeks. It reinforces the fact that Bravo will play no further part in the tournament unless CSK manage a dramatic entry into the playoffs.
