Haryana schools to remain closed till November 30: Govt

NEW DELHI: In the wake of rising Covid-19 cases, Haryana Govt on Friday decided to keep schools closed in the state till November 30.

The state government on Friday announced that schools in the state will remain closed till November 30, 2020.

Earlier, the schools in Haryana reopened from November 2, but only students of classes 9 to 12 were allowed to attend with the prior consent of their parents.

Over 150 school students from three districts in Haryana have tested positive for Coronavirus, prompting authorities to order closure of the educational institutions for a few days. But authorities have now decided to keep the schools closed till November 30.

State Health Minister Anil Vij, in a statement, said the health department teams will conduct checkups of students and staffers of all schools.

He also said that strict action will be taken against the schools which are found not properly following the standard operating procedures (SOPs).

Nineteen of the 35 students of government senior secondary school in Kund village in Rewari district, whose samples were taken a few days ago, had tested positive for the infection, Deputy Commissioner Yashender Singh said on Wednesday.

Later, random sampling was done in 12 other schools of Rewari district and samples of nearly 1,000 students were taken, Singh told PTI over the phone.

The schools in Haryana reopened from November 2, but only students of classes 9 to 12 were allowed to attend with the prior consent of their parents.

US colleges, varsities seek $120bn Covid-19 relief

WASHINGTON: A coalition of US colleges and universities has urged Congress and President Donald Trump’s administration to finalise negotiations on a Covid-19 relief with at least $120 billion for higher education.

As “the scope of the financial duress of students and institutions has only grown” due to the pandemic, schools face an increase in student financial need and Covid-specific costs, as well as a decline in enrollments and auxiliary revenues, Xinhua news agency quoted a letter signed by the American Council on Education and 100 other groups on Wednesday.

U. colleges and universities face “a crisis of almost unimaginable” scale, however, many states have cut their higher education budgets, according to the letter.

“Over 63 per cent of college students have experienced financial losses directly or within their families due to the pandemic,” the letter said, citing a study conducted by the American College Health Association and the Healthy Minds Network.

An estimate in April predicted a decline of 25 per cent of institutional revenues in auxiliary revenues, which covers revenue from room and board charges, conference and facility fees, event tickets, parking fees and bookstores, it added.

Enrolments have also decreased amid the pandemic, with a 13 per cent drop in freshmen across all US institutions, the letter said.

The development comes as the US is currently the worst-hit country by the coronavirus pandemic with the highest number of cases and fatalties, according to Johns Hopkins University.

In its latest update on Thursday, the University’s Center for Systems Science and Engineering (CSSE) revealed that the country’s overall caseload and death toll stood at 13,916,543 and 273,316, respectively.

NTA CSIR UGC NET June 2020 marked responses & answer key released

NEW DELHI: National Testing Agency (NTA) has released the CSIR UGC NET June 2020 marked responses & provisional key on its official website – csirnet.nta.nic.in.

Candidates, who have appeared for the examination, can now download their answer key and response sheet through candidate login on the official website using their credentials – through application number and password or through application number and date of birth.

The Joint CSIR-UGC NET June, 2020 exam was conducted on November 19, 21 & 26, 2020 and November 30, 2020 (for the Examination Centres in Puducherry and Tamil Nadu for Subjects Mathematical Sciences & Chemical Sciences due to cyclone “Nivar”) through Computer Based Test (CBT).

The Question Papers, marked responses of each candidate and the Provisional Answer Keys for 05 Subjects (Life Sciences in 02 shifts on 21 November 2020; Chemical Sciences & Mathematical Sciences in 02 days on 19 and 26 November 2020) are now available on the website csirnet.nta.nic.in.

The candidates who appeared in the test may login into the website, using their application number and date of birth and click the link for display of their question papers and marked responses and the provisional answer keys.

Candidates may also challenge the answer keys, online through the dedicated link, at the above mentioned website, giving details of their claims, with supporting evidence if any. For challenge, they are required to pay processing fee of Rs 1000/- (Rs One Thousand only) per answer challenged.

The fee will be refunded, if the challenge is found to be correct, upon verification by experts. The payment can be made online, through payment gateway, using debit/credit card, Net Banking. No challenge will be considered without receipt of processing fee.

This facility will be available from December 3, 2020 (12:00 noon) to December 5, 2020 (12:00 noon). The payment of the processing fee may be made through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking upto 02:00 PM of December 5, 2020.

How to challenge Joint CSIR-UGC Net June 2020 Answer Key

1) Log on go to NTA official website – csirnet.nta.nic.in

2) Login with your Application Number and Date of Birth and enter Security Pin as displayed and Submit.

3) Click on “View Question Paper” for marked responses and to view or challenge the Answer keys, click on the link “Click to view /Challenge Answer Key”.

4) Select Mode of Payment and Pay your fee @ Rs. 1,000/- for each question challenged. Make payment through Debit/Credit Card/Net Banking.

ZP teacher Ranjitsinh Disale wins $1 million award

PUNE: Ranjitsinh Disale, a Zilla Parishad teacher from Paritewadi, Solapur district in Maharashtra has won the Global Teacher Prize of USD 1 million for using QR codes while imparting lessons and using various other innovative methods in teaching to reduce drop out rate especially in female students.

10 teachers across the globe were shortlisted last month out of which Disale was announced the winner on December 3 in London, UK.

“The impact of Ranjitsinh’s interventions has been extraordinary: there are now no teenage marriages in the village and 100 per cent attendance by girls at the school. The school was also recently awarded the best school in the district with 85% of his students achieving A grades in annual exams. One girl from the village has now graduated from University, something seen as an impossible dream before Ranjitsinh arrived,” says the official website

“After we started the QR coded textbooks in our school in 2016, the state government sent a proposal to the centre about the usefulness of this technology. The centre then sent a team to our school and after studying the system, presented a report to the committee and in 2018, National Council of Educational Research and Training (NCERT) decided to adopt QR codes in their textbooks,” said Disale.

The page about Disale put up on the official website of Global Teacher Prize explains his work and says, ‘The first school he taught in was in a dilapidated building, sandwiched between a cattle shed and a storeroom. Most of the girls were from tribal communities that did not prioritise girls’ education, and the practice of teenage marriage was common. Additionally, the curriculum was not in the students’ primary language (Kannada), which meant that many students were unable to achieve expected learning outcomes. After putting in a great deal of effort, Ranjitsinh learned Kannada, and redesigned all the textbooks of grades 1-4 for better comprehension, along with unique QR codes that embedded audio poems, video lectures, stories and assignments in Kannada’

Disale has said that he would like to share 50% of the prize money with the remaining nine teacher finalists. He had said that he would also launch an initiative to ensure that each year at least 5000 students from the war-affected countries of the world are recruited into a Peace Army.
