SHARJAH: Chennai Super Kings skipper Mahendra Singh Dhoni on Saturday said he had to hand the ball to Ravindra Jadeja to bowl the match-deciding final over against Delhi Capitals since Dwayne Bravo, his preferred option, was not available due to fitness issues.

Capitals needed 17 runs off the final over and Bravo, who is very effective with his slower balls under such crunch situation, was off field.
Axar Patel smacked three sixes off Jadeja to take his side past the finish line. “Bravo was not fit. He went out and didn’t come back. The options were Jaddu and Karn. I went with Jaddu,” Dhoni said at the post-match presentation.
The CSK captain admitted that fielders let the side down.

“Shikhar’s wicket was important but we dropped him quite a number of times. If he keeps batting, he will keep the strike rate high. Also the wicket played better in the second half, but we can’t take the credit away from Shikhar,” he said.
Shikhar Dhawan scored his maiden IPL ton in Capitals’ five wicket win.
Dhoni said the pitch behaved better when Capitals began the chase.
“There wasn’t a lot of dew, but there was just enough to make the pitch better. That makes a big difference: minus 10 when you are batting, and the extra 10 for the team batting second,” he said.
Dhoni was also impressed with the way young Sam Curran bowled under pressure in the 19th over. He conceded only four runs, making it as tough for DC as possible.

“A positive was Sam’s last over. He needs convincing he can execute the wide yorkers. He is not usually confident with that, but today he did well with that. So that is one ball that can be difficult to hit.”
Winning skipper Shreyas Iyer had every reason to smile to at the end of the match.
“I was sitting inside and I was pretty nervous. I knew if Shikhar stayed till the end, we would win, but the way Axar came out and hit those sixes, it was brilliant. Whenever we give out dressing room Man of the match awards, he is always there. You see his preparations, they are always on point,” said Iyer.
“We know the strengths and weaknesses of our team very well. We enjoy each other’s progress. I just told one of my team-mates today that the way Shikhar batted it was mesmerising to see. As a captain, that gives you breathing space that someone can take your team to the end.”

DUBAI: After registering a comprehensive 88-run victory over Delhi Capitals, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) wicketkeeper-batsman Wriddhiman Saha said that he is happy to return to India’s Test squad for the tour of Australia.
SCORECARD | POINTS TABLE | FIXTURES
“I’m happy I got selected for the Tests in Australia,” said Saha after leading SRH to a much-needed win.
Delhi failed to chase down the massive target of 220 as they were bundled out for 131, stumbling to a heavy defeat. For SRH, Rashid Khan scalped three wickets while Sandeep Sharma and T Natarajan took two wickets each.

With this win, Sunrisers Hyderabad have now moved to sixth place in the points table with 10 points from 12 matches. On the other hand, Delhi slipped to the third spot with 14 points from 12 matches.
“I got the opportunity for the second time this year and took my chances in the powerplay. Initially, the ball was holding a bit but I took my chances and went after it after the pitch eased out…We are looking forward to winning the last two matches…that’s our target now,” Saha told host broadcaster Star Sports at the post-match presentation.
Saha top-scored with 87 runs for Hyderabad, enabling his team to put up the big total of 219/2 on the board. The wicketkeeper-batsman was earlier named in India’s 18-member squad for the upcoming Test series against Australia.

Saha and SRH skipper David Warner (66) led Sunrisers’ charge to set Delhi a big target.
Manish Pandey and Kane Williamson remained unbeaten on 44 and 11 respectively, while Anrich Nortje returned with figures of 1-37 in his four overs for Delhi.
Hyderabad will next lock horns with Royal Challengers Bangalore on Saturday at the Sharjah Cricket Stadium.

Sunrisers Hyderabad: IPL 2020: I bowl with a clear mind, that’s my biggest strength, says Rashid Khan | Cricket News

DUBAI: Rashid Khan continues to bamboozle batsmen in the Indian Premier League (IPL) and the Afghanistan leg-spinner credited his astonishing success to bowling with a clear mind.
In Tuesday’s contest against Delhi Capitals in a do-or-die situation, Sunrisers Hyderabad (SRH) registered a comfortable 88-run win to stay alive in the race for the play-offs, and Rashid returned incredible figures of 4-0-7-3 to make a significant contribution in Sunrisers’ win.

“I just go with a clear mind, that’s my biggest strength. I want to bowl a good line and length, no matter the situation. You have to mix up and play with the batsman’s mind, and see the weak zone and strong zone of the batsman as well. So I keep those things in mind,” Rashid said at the post-match presentation ceremony.
The Afghan bowled 17 dot balls in his four-over quota.

“Winning the game was the most important. The wicket was helping a lot. What I’m mainly focusing on is to bowl economically, whether I get wickets or not. Dot balls help me to get wickets and it also helps the other end to get wickets,” he said.
His skipper David Warner was a happy man at the end of the match.
“The game before, we were disappointed with that chase. We defended last game, and with two world-class bowlers in (Anrich) Nortje and (Kagiso) Rabada we decided to go after it,” said the Australian.
“I went a little 2009 and opened my front leg to take it on. I took a bit of responsibility at the top of the order, and take it to the bowlers. It’s tough to play orthodox cricket in these conditions, so I have to open up 360 degrees,” he said of his batting style today.

The skipper added that it was a difficult decision to leave out Jonny Bairstow and replace him with Wriddhiman get Saha but the move paid off.
“Incredible knock from Saha though and his strike-rate in the powerplay was incredible. Unfortunately he’s got a little groin niggle but hopefully it isn’t too bad.”
Capitals skipper Shreyas Iyer said he won’t be “bogged down” by the massive defeat.
“We still have two games. One win is all we need – we’ve been waiting for that since the last three games. This loss is definitely going to motivate us. I think we lost it in the powerplay itself, when they got 70+ runs,” he said.
“We need to have a strong and positive mindset. These loses are no going to put us down. We’ve been doing amazing before these three matches, and it shouldn’t get to our heads,” Iyer added.

IPL 2020, MI vs RCB: Navdeep Saini doubtful for clash against Mumbai Indians | Cricket News

MUMBAI: It’s the last thing that Royal Challengers Bangalore, enjoying the best start to their IPL campaign since 2011, needed when the race for the playoffs is getting hotter.
In what could be a huge blow to their maiden title aspirations, their ace pacer Navdeep Saini split the webbing of his right hand during the defeat against the Chennai Super Kings, and is now doubtful for the key game against the Mumbai Indians in Abu Dhabi on Wednesday night. Saini tried to stop the ball while bowling the 18th over of CSK’s chase.
IPL 2020 POINTS TABLE
After the match against CSK, Evan Speechly, RCB’s head physiotherapist, told RCB TV: “Sainihas split his webbing. He obviously got hit on the thumb on the right hand. Fortunately, we had a good hand surgeon, he stitched it up nicely. So, we could just monitor over the night and check it after getting ready for the next game,” he said.
During IPL 2016, RCB and India captain Virat Kohli had suffered a similar injury against the Kolkata Knight Riders. Kohli had received eight stitches in his right hand before coming out to bat. He went out and scored a match-winning 75 not out, and followed it up with a 50-ball 113 against Kings XI Punjab.

Talking about Virat’s injury, Speechly said: “Virat, four-five years ago, he had it in Kolkata, we managed to stop the bleeding and he smashed a 100 after we got a plastic surgeon who had stitched it.”
Speechly wasn’t sure if Saini would be fit to return. “Unfortunately, you cannot compare the two injuries. Some people can manage it and some can’t. It’s also because Saini’s injury is on his bowling hand, so it puts a lot of pressure on him so I cannot be sure when he will be good to go. I am hoping that he will be good to play in the next game and the rest of the tournament,” he said. The Delhi pacer has been instrumental in RCB’s success so far in IPL 2020, taking five wickets in 11 games at an economy rate of 7.95.
If Saini doesn’t recover in time, RCB may have to recall India’s Test pacer Umesh Yadav, who went for 83 runs in his seven overs in the first two games, before being dropped. They would hope that Chris Morris, Mohammad Siraj, Isuru Udana and the spinners, Yuzvendra Chahal and Washington Sundar continue their fine show so far. In a pleasant change, it is RCB’s bowling which has been the talk of the town so far.

Having accumulated the same number of points (14), scored an identical number of wins and suffering the same number of defeats, both RCB and MI would be desperate to beat each other and secure a playoff berth. While MI are still sitting on top of the table despite their loss against Rajasthan Royals, RCB are on third spot after they were thrashed by CSK.
Though he trained in the nets on Tuesday night, raising quite a few eyebrows since the national selectors had only hours earlier ruled him out of the Australia tour due to a hamstring injury, MI skipper Rohit Sharma is set to miss his third game in a row.
