Education job seekers protested massively in Patna on Monday, compounding the challenges faced by Deputy Chief Minister Tejashwi Yadav. The protesters, who passed the CTET and STET, demanded that the new government make a notification for the 7th recruitment phase.
As job recruitment is a poll promise for Tejashwi Yadav and Chief Minister Nitish Kumar and the last 10 lakh jobs and 10 lakh employment opportunities of Gandhi Maidan had been announced on Independence Day, expectations are high at the moment.
The protesters gathered in the Dak Bunglow Chowk to protest against the government, with some accusing Tejashwi Yadav of being no different from other leaders and the parties, and claiming he had pledged for the jobs at a time when he was an opposition leader and he has refused after coming to power.
Police carried out a baton attack on the protesters, injuring several people. Patna ADM and duty magistrate KK Singh are also alleged to have beaten an agitator who was holding the national flag with a baton, and above the hip, which is also an offence.
Meanwhile, Tejashwi Yadav said applicants should be patient for a few more days as the recruitment process will begin soon. “We have a government of poor people and unemployment is one of the main agendas for us. I would like to call on every youth to be patient for a few days, the various departments including Education have been directed to prepare the recruitment policy. Aspirants for a job as a teacher meet me every day. They don’t have to do agitation.
“I was the advocate of recruitment and it is our top priority. It’s on our list… the recruitment process will begin shortly,” he said.
Speaking about the ADM’s action, Tejashwi Yadav said: “I saw an officer beating an agitator who was holding the national flag. It is extremely unfortunate and painful. I have spoken to the Patna DM and asked him to assemble a team to investigate the incident and take action against the officer.”
The ADM could be in serious trouble after hitting the protester with the national flag. If found guilty of the offense under the law prohibiting insults to the national flag, he will face three years in prison, followed by fines.
Singh, who was appointed on Monday as a duty magistrate in Dak Bunglow Chowk to monitor rioters, has also been asked by the investigative committee to answer the circumstances under which he filed the charge with the baton.
