Anrich Nortje aims for Shoaib Akhtar’s record after delivering fastest ever IPL ball | Cricket News

DUBAI (UAE): South African and Delhi Capitals‘ pacer Anrich Nortje is eyeing to break the fastest recorded delivery in all of the cricket after clocking a speed of 156.22 km/h against Rajasthan Royals on Wednesday.
Interestingly, Nortje had bowled the second and third-fastest delivery in this season of IPL as well after recording a pace of 155.21 and 154.74 respectively.
The fastest delivery record (161.3km/h) is currently held by former Pakistan pacer Shoaib Akhtar during the 2003 World Cup match against England.
“Hopefully it’s something I’ve got in me and it’s definitely something I’ve wanted to do,” Nortje told his IPL teammate R Ashwin on the latter’s YouTube channel.

“Maybe a good wicket, some adrenaline, the right combination and I can do it this IPL or maybe in the future,” he added.

In the match against the Royals, Nortje cranked up the speeds in his very first over, but Rajasthan Royals’ Jos Buttler played two scoops off him to register boundaries. However, the Proteas pacer came back and he clean bowled Buttler on the final delivery of his first over.
“I don’t know. It’s on the day,” Nortje said when Ashwin asked about the record.
“I didn’t know about the 156kph until after the game. Obviously, there was nothing on the scoreboard. It would’ve been a bit of a help to get the blood flowing. But, I’ve got no idea,” said Nortje.
Delhi Capitals are currently at the top of the points table with 12 points. The Shreyas Iyer-led side will face Chennai Super Kings (CSK) later in the day.

NEW DELHI: Shikhar Dhawan expressed elation over completing 10 years of playing for the Indian cricket team and said “there has been no greater honour”.
“10 years with Team India, 10 years playing for my country – there has been no greater honour. Representing my nation has given me memories for a lifetime, that I am always grateful for,” Dhawan tweeted.

Dhawan made his ODI debut for India on October 20, 2010, against Australia. The batsman then went on to make 136 appearances for the team in ODI cricket, amassing 5,688 runs with a highest score of 143 runs.
In the next year, he made his T20I debut against West Indies. The 34-year-old has also played 34 Tests and scored 2,315 runs in the longest format of the game.
Currently, Dhawan is playing in the Indian Premier League (IPL), representing Delhi Capitals in the league. Recently, Dhawan smashed his maiden IPL century as he guided his side to a five-wicket win over Chennai Super Kings.
Delhi Capitals will now take on Kings XI Punjab on Tuesday at Dubai International Stadium.

Zimbabwe coach Rajput skips Pakistan tour after Indian Embassy in Harare seeks exemption | Cricket News

KARACHI: Zimbabwe cricket coach Lalchand Rajput has travelled with the team for a tour of Pakistan after the Indian embassy in Harare requested his exemption from the limited-over series.
A statement from Zimbabwe Cricket said that Rajput will miss the tour following the request from the Indian embassy. In Rajput’s absence, bowling coach Douglas Hondo would take charge of the team during the tour.
“@Lalchandrajput7 will miss the @TheRealPCB tour after the Embassy of India in Harare wrote to @ZimCricketv asking that he be exempted from visiting Pakistan. The Embassy of Pakistan in Harare had issued a visa to Rajput,” the ZC tweeted.

“With @Lalchandrajput7 unavailable, @ZimCricketv has appointed bowling coach Douglas Hondo to take charge of the team for the three ODIs and as many T20Is games against @TheRealPCB.”

‘ESPNCricinfo’ reported that the exemption was sought citing “travel guidelines of the government for its citizens”.
The Zimbabwean team is scheduled to play three ODIs against Pakistan in Rawalpindi, starting October 30, before moving to Lahore for three T20Is. The visiting team arrived in Pakistan on Tuesday.
A top source in the PCB said that the directives of the Indian government to not allow Rajput to visit Pakistan had caused some concerns in the Board. India and Pakistan have had no bilateral cricketing ties due to tense diplomatic ties between the two countries.
“The concerns are genuine because the PCB is waiting for confirmation from the ICC and BCCI by January-February that the national team would be issued visas by the Indian government for next year’s World T20 in India,” the source said.
“Makes no sense to stop him from travelling to Pakistan when he has been issued a visa. The PCB is bound to provide the best security and hospitality to the visiting contingent as per regulations,” he added.
The PCB has also invited South Africa and England to send teams to Pakistan in January-February.
A delegation of Cricket South Africa is due in Lahore next month during the Pakistan Super League matches to inspect the security arrangements for their team.
The 58-year-old Rajput was appointed as Zimbabwe’s full time coach in August 2018, after the team’s failure to qualify for the 2019 World Cup.
He played two Tests and four ODIs for India between 1985 and 1987.
The Zimbabwe players were required to undergo two COVID-19 tests — one in Harare prior to their departure on Monday, and another on Tuesday.
This will be Zimbabwe’s first tour of Pakistan since 2015.
